| LANDMARQ - ROBIN 2, BILSTON - 6TH JUNE 2003 Tracey and the boys are back and not before time !!! It’s been five years since the last studio album, but they have been very busy on the continent, which is where the majority of their fan-base resides. Although I had heard of Landmarq since joining the CRS a few years ago, I never really bothered to check them out until quite recently - at the point when Gonzalo joined on keyboards to be precise, having built a friendship with him during his “Fragile” years !! So, I suppose you could say I’m a relative newcomer to their music, but that don’t mean I don’t know a good thing when I hear it and having caught up very quickly, now class myself as a true convert. With decent venues in the Midlands scarce these days ( Robin 1 in Dudley closed back in June 2003 and JB’s won’t be far behind when Dudley goes under the 100 million pound development hammer ) we now have a choice between The Shed ( waste of space ), Rock Café 2000 and of course, Robin 2 in Bilston. It was at the latter that I caught up with the band, having coaxed two of my good buddies along for the ride and what a ride………. Despite the exceptionally small audience, the band came on stage and played their asses off, covering most of “Science” plus two new tracks – “Entertaining Angels” and “Walking On Eggshells”, which hopefully means there’s a new album on the way, although there was no mention of one…. ( hint hint guys ) Not having seen the band pre-Gonzalo, we were curious to see how he had settled in with the subtle intricacies of the keyboard intensive “Overlook” for example. The good news is, this chap is here to stay as he carried off the job very capably – keep up the good work Gonz ( Fragile’s loss eh ??? ) With only one encore ( the uplifting Summer Madness ) the entire set lasted just short of 2 hours, Even though we were small in number, we obviously created enough noise to encourage the band to return on stage and afterwards they came out for a chat – shame about the lack of merchandising you guys. I spoke with Tracey at length and passed on my comments, hopefully we'll be seeing them again very soon, let’s just hope Mike Hamblett ( who owns and manages the Robin 2 ) was not too disheartened at the low numbers. From a recommendation point of view, small and devoted we may be, but it won’t stop us from spreading the word – Landmarq are back and here to stay, long may they entertain us. In a country that seems only too quick to elevate the talent-less and 5-minute wonder to superstar status, this was a first rate evening for a trio of very new and excited Landmarq fans, look forward to your next gig !!
