April to June 2001

Back to main news page

Greetings...

Firstly, our usual warm welcome to new subscribers to the LENL newsletter and to new fans and friends who have recently discovered Landmarq. Plus of course, an equally warm welcome to our existing fans and friends.

It's been a fairly eventful period for Landmarq recently and we hope some positive developments will be on-going as the year progresses.

Now read on...

Greenslade/Landmarq at Liscombe Park...

(Apologies for the delay in publishing this brief report).
The Greenslade/Landmarq gig took place on Sunday 11th February 2001 at Liscombe Park, Buckinghamshire, UK, to a small but no less enthusiastic crowd. Featured in Landmarq's set was "Entertaining Angels", one of theGreenslade poster
pieces destined for the new studio album that is in the initial 'creative' stage!

Another number featured was an earlier favourite --- and coincidentally the all-time favourite Landmarq song of gig organiser Martin Darvill --- that is, "Embrace". The song has undergone a slight re-arrangement and will, in fact, be included in the second live album from the band to be released in the next couple of months. Both of these songs featured in Landmarq's set at BajaProg 2001 in Mexico and the recent Prog-Sud 2001 in France and have been exceptionally well-received. (See below for more details of Prog-Sud and the new live album).

Landmarq would like to thank Martin Darvill and the folks at Liscombe Park for all their assistance and kind hospitality.

Set list: The Vision Pit; Science Of Coincidence; The Overlook; Entertaining Angels; Between Sleeping And Dreaming / Reprise; More Flames For The Dancer; Heritage; Lighthouse; Embrace; Summer Madness.

Prog-Sud 2001 (or 'A Weekend In Provence')...

Prog-Sud 2001 was held on the 8th and 9th of June and featured six bands, including Landmarq. The line-up was (in order of appearance):

Friday 8th June:
SYLVAN (Germany); ECLAT (France); CAST (Mexico)

Saturday 9th June:
CYMORYL (France); DFA (Italy); LANDMARQ (UK)

Friday's line-up was something of a reunion as Sylvan, Eclat and Cast had all appeared prog-sud posterat Mexico's Baja Prog 2001 (hosted by Cast) earlier this year, along with Landmarq.
On Saturday night (Sunday morning!!), at 12:45am, Landmarq took the stage --- 45 minutes later than scheduled due to over-runs of previous bands. But, though the hour was late, the audience seemed just as lively as when the evening began and Landmarq received a great response, playing a mix of material (see set-list below) and going on to play a total of three encores. One of these was the popular light-relief(!) number 'Summer Madness' which even had some of the audience 'pogo-ing' and singing along. This seemed to be an ideal way to bring the whole festival to a finish though we suspect many of the audience members would have been happy to go on til breakfast, given the chance.... ;-)

In a brief post-gig review, Renaud from 'Harmonie' Magazine (France) wrote (trans.):
"...LANDMARQ: Luminous, Dancing, Touching, Cordial, Friendly, brief but I also adored what I have seen..."

Landmarq would like to thank Alain, Jean, Marc, Philippe and everyone at Prog-Sud 2001 for all their assistance and who made the band feel so welcome. Salud and cheers, guys!

Set list: The Vision Pit; Science Of Coincidence; The Overlook; Entertaining Angels; Between Sleeping And Dreaming / Reprise; More Flames For The Dancer; Heritage; Embrace; Lighthouse.
Encores: Pinewood Avenue; Summer Madness; Solitary Witness.

Other stuff...

DAVE Wagstaffe / KEN HENSLEY
Busy drummer Dave wagstaff had a call from Uriah Heep's own Ken Hensley to fill the drum chair at a massive rock festival in Sweden on 8th June 2001 alongside the likes of blues-rocker Gary Moore and Canadian rock outfit, Dave WagstaffeRose Tatoo. Also in Kens' line-up was ex-Landmarq vocalist, Ian 'Moon' Gould, guitarist Dave Kilminster and bassist Andy Pyle. Dave was actually set to appear with KH the very day before Landmarq's appearance at the Prog-Sud 2001 Festival (as mentioned above) in the south of France. So it was a case of jetting off to Sweden on the Thursday evening, playing the gig on the Friday, leaving soon after finishing the set to then fly off to Nice airport (via the UK) and finally catching a train along the coast to arrive in Marseilles on Saturday morning to meet up with Landmarq for the Prog-Sud gig on the Saturday night. Then back home on Sunday. So what do you do for an encore, Dave...??? ;-)

TRACY IN PARIS
In her own busy schedule, Tracy has also found time to do some session work/vocal coaching recently for French pop star Betina Anthony (no.3 in the French charts at the time of writing), which has meant her taking some occasional trips to Paris. This has given her the incentive to learn to speak French - quite useful considering Landmarq just played in France. Now, if she can just get to grips with Dutch, German, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, etc.
